What we think

Built in 1931, the Dorchester is a London grande dame that sets the bar for the rest. Its service standards are renowned, the Hyde Park address is coveted and, to judge by the lineup of cars at the porte-cochère, the hotel is filled with the world's rich and famous. Doormen in top hats whisk open the grand doors to reveal marble floors, gilded ceilings and a lobby where the Art Deco glamour is in full swing. Upstairs the 250 rooms and suites vary—some rely more on chintz and florals, others are more soothingly modern—but share a strongly English sensibility. The

Alain Ducasse restaurant, awarded three Michelin stars, serves unparalleled seasonal cuisine that’s sourced from the British Isles and across the Channel. High Tea is served in The Promenade, and China Tang serves authentic Cantonese in a gleaming space that evokes 1920s Shanghai.

The Dorchester Spa is similarly glamorous, with luxe details like the chandelier made of South Pacific pearls and the ample displays of blooming flowers.

The Moment

Tucked into a high-backed green and gold settee, under a towering flower arrangement, you feel like you're seated in your own private nook at The Promenade. You watch the pianist make his way to his post—a bit earlier than usual. The trolleys holding tiered silver platters are still roaming the room, delivering scones and Earl Grey to the brilliantly decked out High Tea attendees.

Overlooking Hyde Park on Park Lane and Tilney Street, a short walk from Hyde Park Corner. Mayfair and Piccadilly are a quick 10-minute walk to the east. The hotel is just under 45 minutes by car to Heathrow.
