The Milestone Hotel and Residences

Five-Star Victorian

What it is

A Kensington mansion with a highbrow pedigree. And a pool.

What it isn't

Minimalist. If you’re not a fan of flouncy drapes and patterns-on-patterns (and if you’re not, why are you even coming to the U.K.?), avert your eyes.

What we think

You can tell from the grin on the waiter's face as he pops open your bottle of Moët with a sabre that the Milestone revels in pomp and absurdity. Built in 1689, this onetime home to Baron Albert Grant is posh and palatial, perfectly located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Expect 24-hour butler service to attend to your every whimsical whim—and a loaner Bentley idling for your jaunts about town. Each room feels like a long-established respite in a family home; the Tudor Suite is fitted with ornate oak paneling and a glitzy chandelier; the Viscount's curtained four-post bed has a dove's-eye-view of Kensington Gardens. The Conservatory offers a legendary afternoon tea—the manager has visited every tea source on the menu to ensure worthiness.

You're here because

A British accent sets your Anglophile heart aflutter—as does a Union Jack, tiered high-tea platters or anything vaguely Downton.

The Moment

Feeling an approaching jet-lag slump, you ask your butler to make up a picnic hamper. The finger sandwiches (Mull of Kintyre cheddar and tomato; chicken and Hampshire watercress) taste all the better in the fresh air of Kensington Palace Gardens.

Restaurants & Bars

Cheneston's Restaurant - Exceptional cuisine with an emphasis on cutting-edge British cuisine, prepared with the highest quality of fresh ingredients. The menu is influenced by Beatrice Tollman—President and Founder of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, who has a particular passion for food.

Afternoon Tea - A traditional English experience overlooking the Kensington Palace.

Stables Bar - An intimate and unique hideaway with an extensive drinks menu.

The Conservatory - A relaxed space for drinks, light snacks or a leisurely breakfast.

Location

On the fashionable Kensington High Street, a 10-minute walk to Royal Albert Hall and V&A Museum. Kensington Palace is just 6 minutes away—should you want to pop by to say hello to Kate and Wills.
