Fairmont St. Andrews

Golfing Mecca

What it is

In the birthplace of golf: a 520-acre retreat with two championship courses, a thoroughly Scottish spa, and four unforgettable bars and restaurants.

What it isn't

Just about hitting the links. Activities here range from walking the cliffside Fife Coastal Path (basically a scene from Jane Austen, IRL) to croquet on the lawn.

What we think

The folks that invented the sport of golf on this land circa 1400 AD would give up every hole in one for a chance to experience the type of luxury that latter-day golfers experience at Fairmont St. Andrews. Guest rooms are tailored and sumptuous: even the starter room category, at 237 square feet, is stocked with plush robes, sea views (in many rooms) and a Nespresso machine for your morning cuppa. We love the 579 square foot Deluxe Suite for its plush sitting area overlooking the frothy sea, and the aptly named Kingdom of Fife Suite in the North Wing of the property—a whopping 1302 square feet, with a private balcony and separate living room complete with a fireplace. While you’re here, be sure to stop in at the Fairmont Spa for a seaweed wrap; the seaweed itself was plucked from Scotland’s own Hebridean Islands.

You're here because

Little ones are treated like young Arnold Palmers with an exquisite lineup of exploits, including pizza making with the chefs, teensy manicures at the spa, golf lessons with a PGA pro, and more.

The Moment

Afternoon tea just tastes better in the airy light of the Atrium Lounge. And here, you find the experience is fit for a Middleton…complete with salmon and dill croquets; housemade lemon curd for the fresh-from-the-oven scones, and dundee cake. Cheers, dears.

A 10 minute drive from the Old Course, where golf was invented, and the same distance from the University of St Andrews…a.k.a. Where Prince William met a certain girl named Kate.
