Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea
World Wonder
What it is
Inspired by the hanging gardens of Babylon, this garden-fringed hotel has 9 dazzling outdoor pools, five restaurants and the largest spa in the Middle East.
What it isn't
Just for grown-ups. The Titan Tikes Kids Club for littles 2-12 is stocked with old and new school thrills, from Monopoly and puzzles to computers and Wii.
What we think
This retreat in “the lowest place on earth” has, ironically, reached new heights. Guest rooms are nothing less than ginormous (starting at 538 square feet), fitted with terraces and spa-like bathrooms sheathed in local stone. We love the serene Panoramic Room by Resense Spa, which has a 656 square foot floor plan and is tucked within the spa itself; it has appropriately calming amenities en-suite, including a wellness-oriented minibar, yoga mats and blocks, spa robes and flip flops, and balconies that peer out on the Dead Sea. And whether you’re actually on honeymoon or indulging in a much needed “me time-moon,” the Ishtar Honeymoon Suite is a delight, thanks to its private al fresco whirlpool and sunbed-stocked terrace.
You're here because
You’re a bit of a spa junkie, and the words “largest spa in The Middle East” are like a seaweed wrap for the soul. This 107,639 square foot spa has a Dead Sea pool, tepidarium, and 20 treatment rooms for indulgences like a Dead Sea salt massage.
The Moment
Sitting waterside at sunset at Blu Mediterranean Flavours restaurant, you’re not sure what’s more delicious: the view, or sea scallops with lemon garlic butter before you.
