North Hatley, Canada
Manoir Hovey
The the Manoir Born
What it is
A 35-room, 35-acre estate on Lake Massawippi, with manicured gardens and a lauded locavore restaurant.
What it isn't
New. The property was built in 1899 based on George Washington’s own Mount Vernon (no big deal!).
What we think
If you don’t have a Ralph Lauren-worthy summer escape to call your own, may we humbly introduce Manoir Hovey? The property is nothing short of Exquisite with a capital E. Each guest room overlooks the lake and ornate English gardens just beyond the windows, and is fitted with amenities that would pamper Pippa Middleton—Frette towels, Nespresso machines, L’Occitane toiletries and many private balconies and fireplaces among them. The Luxury Rooms are among our favorite stays here, thanks to private balconies, gas fireplaces and therapeutic tubs that fit two (cue the romance!). Of course, there’s also the aptly named Cartier Suite—in its own private cottage, with its own dock where a kayak and canoe await to ply the waters in smashing style.
You're here because
It’s part of Relais & Chateaux’s over-the-top-fabulous curation of hotels, so topnotch service and memorable food is a guarantee.
The Moment
Sitting by a flickering fire is an idyllic way to start the day. The only thing making it even better? This note-perfect breakfast of local cheddar, just-made croissant, smoked salmon, sourdough and creme fraiche. You’re in edible heaven.
