What we think

When you’re in México, you don’t want to feel like you’re at an airport hotel in Topeka. And that’s where Rancho Pescadero—which is as authentic and local as possible— comes in. Each one of the earthy guest rooms are adorned in Mexican-made crafts, artisanal soap, biodegradable and organic toiletries, and the sorts of design touches you might see in a modernist design magazine, including woven natural fiber pendant lights, custom bed linens, private terraces and exposed beams overhead. It’s worth splurging on a specialty suite for a truly jaw-dropping experience; the Ocean View Milagro Suite with Plunge Pool has a serene infinity pool overlooking the frothy sea. Or live like a (deep pocketed) local in a Villa, complete with a fire pit, al fresco shower, and ocean views so infinite you’ll feel like a local pelican on the wing.

You’re not a huge planner and love it when hotels have a flotilla of activities ready to go. Guest experiences here include whipping up mezcal margaritas with the resident mixologist; cacao ceremonies; creating your own candle to take home; and so much more.

The Moment

The dishes at Botanica, which is tucked within the hotel’s own organic garden, are so artfully plated you almost feel bad eating them…but you do, including the local organic steak grilled tenderly over the fire. Spoiler alert: it tastes even better than it looks.

Restaurants & Bars

Kahal - Enjoy oceanfront and poolside dining at Kahal while the sun dips below the horizon. The innovative menu centers around fresh-caught seafood, locally sourced ingredients, and handcrafted cocktails.

Centro - Head to Centro to sip spirits—like our own aged tequila—and sample cocktails made from herbs and citrus fruits grown in our organic garden. Mexican comfort food and specialty coffee beverages round out the menu.

Botánica - Enjoy farm-fresh veggies, wood-fired pizzas, and organic meats cooked outside on a traditional Mayan underground oven.
