What we think

Zadun is, by design, about as far from stereotypical Mexican beach resorts as it gets. On these 20 acres, guest rooms are minimalist in the most maximalist of ways, including sliding glass walls, plunge pools on the terraces and a sedate interior palette of streamlined sandy creams and ocean turquoise blues. Book a Cortez Ocean View Suite for an oversized soaking tub to linger in, a rainforest shower that feels nearly as good as the literal rainforest rain showers out your door, and party-ready amenities, including iPhone docking stations and 24-hour in-room dining, ideal for all your 1 a.m. margarita needs. Oenophiles, they haven’t forgotten you; the hotel’s Sotano Cellar is stocked with some 450 labels from Argentina, France, Italy, and, yes, Mexico. Salud.

The Moment

You always love the food in Mexico, obviously, but the four restaurants at Zadun have catapulted it to another level of delectibility. Settled into your woven leather seat at Humo, where nearly every dish is cooked in a charcoal and wood burning Argentine parrilla, you go for vacation gold: a roasted peach and prosciutto salad; grilled curd cheese and guava with country bread; and a fire roasted Peruvian chicken. Hot, indeed.
