Los Cabos, Mexico
Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection
Auberge Resorts Collection
What it is
Laid-back luxury on a quiet stretch of Los Cabos beach.
What it isn't
In the thick of things. It's a 20-minute drive to Cabo San Lucas, 30 to San José del Cabo.
What we think
Visitors to Los Cabos hardly need another luxury resort to choose from, but Chileno Bay, which opened in late 2016, only broadened the region's embarrassment of resort riches. Run by Auberge Resorts—which also manages Esperanza—its principal selling point is the setting on one of Cabo's most swimmable beaches. That makes it ideal for active types, who can partake in stand-up paddle-boarding, snorkeling (the reef here is in excellent shape), kayaking or morning yoga sessions on the sand. The 60 rooms—as well as 32 villas ranging from two to six bedrooms—are designed for relaxation. An open-plan layout and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors encourage a sense of indoor-outdoor living, and the contemporary but colorful design has local touches, like hand-painted ceramic tiles and original Mexican artworks, to ensure a sense of place. Also at hand: a Tom Fazio–designed golf course, a signature restaurant whose chef trained at the French Laundry, and a spa with outdoor treatment rooms.
You're here because
You came to Cabo to swim in the ocean, not just look at it.
The bartender at Comal patiently walks you through the selection of tequilas and mezcals—the largest in the area—while over at the raw bar, the chef combines raw fish, chiles, and citrus juice to create a custom ceviche just for you.
