Riviera Maya, Mexico
Grand Velas Riviera Maya
Luxurious AND all-inclusive.
What it is
The best of the beachfront all-inclusives.
What it isn't
A quiet or secluded beach boutique—this place isn't small, but it's no Mega Resort either.
What we think
Grand Velas Riviera Maya is the perfect choice for luxury-oriented guests who want the convenience and true value of an all-inclusive. With 539 spacious, private terrace and plunge pool-equipped suites (starting at about 1,000 sqft), Grand Velas may seem like it's a giant resort. However, the property is thoughtfully laid out and feels more like multiple small resorts connected by jungle walkways and manicured trails. There's a section dedicated to family suites and then there's another wholly separate section where you won’t hear toddlers or tweens crying, the 90 Grand Class suites.
A long list of activities (diving, kayaking, kite-surfing, yoga) plus a huge, truly excellent spa and clubs for kids and teens keeps everyone busy. And before you begin to think of hoards of sunburned tourists and kiddos running around a buffet bar, note that the property has eight restaurants that range from a French bistro to an ambitious, Basque-influenced Cocina de Autor. There are three gorgeous pools and a perfectly white stretch of sandy beach. The fact that nearly everything is included in the rate (even top shelf alcohol is included, though ultra-premium wines, spa treatments, and some activities are additional charges) makes the resort that much more appealing.
You're here because
You want a five-star hotel but appreciate the incredible value of an all-star all-inclusive.
The twins are busy at the kids' club, your spouse is relaxing at the spa, so you have a moment alone to sip a margarita by the sparkling blue pool and doze off in the warm Mexican sun. Bliss
On 80 acres of mangrove preserve along the Riviera Maya, about 10 minutes from the town of Playa del Carmen and 35 minutes from the Cancún airport.
