What it is

A revamped 1959 gem with spacious rooms (each with a patio), an 18-hole par 3 golf course, two topnotch restaurants, two cabana-lined pools, and so much more.

What it isn't

Equipped with a ginormous spa. But with two 75-foot alfresco pools, a 4,000 square foot gym (with everything from aerial yoga to TRX), and in-room Swedish and Shiatsu massages, you won’t miss it.

What we think

Liz Taylor was here. That’s the feeling you get when you first step foot onto the lush grounds at this legendary respite (and it’s true: the Hollywood siren stayed here, along with many other boldface names, in its 1960s heyday). And with guest rooms like these, it’s no wonder. Even the beginning room category is expansive at 427 square feet, with sumptuous perks like robes and slippers, Red Flower toiletries, and patios practically tailor-made for taking in the sunset while noshing on room service Niman Ranch beef tenderloin or short rib agnolotti. For a soaking tub overlooking the 2,706-foot-tall peak of Camelback Mountain, book an Immerse Guestroom; larger parties will adore the 1,123-square-foot Camelback Presidential Suite, which has a private terrace and separate living spaces (including a de facto dining room). While you’re here, be sure to book a hike with Wild Bunch Desert Guides; Piestewa Peak is a favorite for its panoramic overlook of the surrounding 14 million year old rock formations.

You're here because

The 1961 golf course is a total classic (Golf.com deemed it one of the best par-3 courses in the nation).

The Moment

Locavore meals don’t get any better than what’s on the menu at Hearth ‘61, where you’re surrounded by Scottsdale locals…always a good sign. Your order tonight? Tempura oyster mushrooms, a charred beet salad with horseradish mascarpone, and chicken remoulade from nearby Two Wash Ranch. Divine.

Restaurants & Bars

Hearth ’61 - offers modern American cuisine as well as craft cocktails, local brews and an extensive wine selection

Rusty’s - grill and lounge near the golf course

Location

A Phoenix/Scottsdale suburb aptly named Paradise Valley Village, just seven miles from the 140-acre Desert Botanical Garden, where you can wander Sonoran desert trails where hummingbirds flourish.
