MacArthur Place Hotel and Spa

Country Luxury

What it is

An immaculately renovated, serene 64-room retreat on five manicured acres (including a vineyard), with an indulgent spa, al fresco pool, and restaurants that would wow Julia Child herself.

What it isn't

Going to send you home out of shape. Your wellness is paramount; just look to the TRX-stocked gym, yoga lessons and loaner electric bikes.

What we think

The spa at MacArthur Place is no ordinary spa. For one thing, it culls ingredients for its treatments from the on-site herb, fruit and flower gardens, some of which existed a century ago when this was a family farm. For another, its treatments may well have been imagined in Gwyneth Paltrow’s fever dreams (you want the citrus and kale facial and garden mud body wrap). Sunlit-strewn guest rooms are just as pampering for your mental and physical health; even the “starter” option is 350-square-feet and stocked with a European walk-in shower, spa-like bathrooms and even access to a shared garden where fire pits await. To sprawl out a bit like Gwyneth might, you want to book the Chef’s Cottage—a 575 square foot abode that looks like a Nancy Meyers movie sprung to life, with a private patio and outdoor shower.

You're here because

You can expect full-throttle guest pampering, including complimentary (and locally made) in-room snacks and drinks; an evening turndown amenity from the chef; freshly ground and steeped coffee; the list goes on.

The Moment

Overlooking the leafy tree canopy at Layla, the hotel’s Mediterranean restaurant, you think you may have found California’s best kept secret for brunch. One bite of your avocado toast on grilled house-made rye, with pickled peppers, lemon and estate herbs, and it’s official….you’re never leaving.
