Healdsburg, California
Harmon Guest House
Modern Marvel
What it is
A sleek new 39-room retreat in the oenophile mecca, with a hipster-filled rooftop cocktail bar, solar-heated outdoor pool and loaner bikes for whirls around town.
What it isn't
Artless. The hotel’s collection includes myriad pieces by local legends Chris Blum, Sabine Reckewell, and more.
What we think
You know that when a hotel spends the time to source incredible locally-made amenities, they’ve spent time to perfect everything. Here, the throw pillows and blankets in your bedroom were crafted by Healdsburg (and Chilean expat) Catalina Marin; the liquor in your in-room bar cart made by Young & Yonder and Sipsong Spirits; and even the plates were hand-thrown, right here, by Stephanie Hayes. So it’s perhaps no surprise that your room itself was just as well thought out, with window seats, balconies, and original art galore. For the roomiest digs, it’s worth booking a Founder’s Suite, each of which is fitted with an extra powder room, dining area and living space, and a spa-like bathroom where the Instagrammable bathtub was cast by Sonoma Stoneworks.
You're here because
The hotel has a complimentary chef’s breakfast every morning at Spoonbar, and you’ve learned the hard way touring wineries without breaki is a bad idea.
The Moment
By the fire pit on the sleek wood-wrapped roof’s cocktail bar, you feel like a bird in flight, spying Fitch Mountain and the twinkling Healdsburg lights all at once. So you order a cocktail that has seemingly bottled the feeling: Twilight, with rum, lime, coconut, ginger and nutmeg. Nirvana.
