What we think
If Frank Lloyd Wright ever took a much-deserved beach vacay, it might look something like this place, which was directly inspired by the architect when it was built in 1963. Most guest rooms have soaring wood-planked ceilings, Nest-operated fireplaces and sea views of Sonoma; amenities would satisfy any hipster, with local Russian River roasted coffee, LATHER toiletries, and even a Crosley LP record player for dancing the night away to your in-room vinyl collection. It’s worth upgrading to a suite for a Smeg fridge, living area that’s separate from your bedroom, and a large soaking tub ideal for steeping away the chilly air after a foggy walk on the shore.

The Moment
You haven’t had a bad meal since you got to Sonoma, but something about tonight’s dish at the hotel’s own Coast Kitchen hits different. Maybe it’s the fact that you’re perched by the fire pit, or that smoked chicken with housemade bacon came right from a farm up the road, but dinner has never tasted better.
Location
Right on legendary Highway 1, which hugs the Sonoma coast (and was featured prominently in HBO’s Big Little Lies). The hotel is 2 ½ hours by car from San Francisco and just a quick drive from some 400 wineries.
