Olympic Valley, California

The Everline Resort & Spa

Gold Medal Stay

What it is

The ski-in, ski-out pride of the Olympic Valley, with cozy guest rooms (including suites with fireplaces), golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., and topnotch spa.

What it isn't

Hangry. Five restaurant options on-site include a poolside grill, Asian noodle house, and steakhouse where the locavore menu includes a grilled tomahawk from California’s own Harris Ranch.

What we think

It’s hard to wow in the mountains, where snow-dusted peaks do all the head-turning. And yet Everline Resort & Spa has become a showstopper that generations of families return to year after year. Guest rooms are traditionally appointed, with all the trimmings: including pillow-top beds, fluffy robes and slippers, Keurig Coffee makers, LED flatscreen TVs, and iPhone charging docks, and start at a spacious 379 square feet. For an even dreamier stay, it’s well worth upgrading to one of their 200 Fireplace Suites; each one is equipped with a deep soaking tub, Bose stereos, kitchenettes and, in the separate living room, a flickering gas fireplace that’s the ideal backdrop for wine hour. (With floor plans that range from 646 to 1478 square feet, you’ll be as free-range as the local mule deer).

You're here because

Their par 71 championship golf course is nothing less than iconic, and swaddled by six snow-capped Sierra Mountain peaks. Golf Magazine deemed it among the top 10 golf courses you can ever play.

The Moment

You love a spa that tailors its treatments to the locale, and this is exactly that. After your A Walk in the Woods Radiance Facial and High Altitude Massage, you proceed directly to Sandy’s Pub for yet another mountain indulgence: banana cream pie, delightfully served après-ski-style, in a mug.
