Avalon Hotel Palm Springs

Charm Galore

What it is

A 4.5-acre, 70-room Spanish Revival hideaway with studios and villas, plus a cozy spa, Mediterranean restaurant and insider access to one of Frank Sinatra’s watering holes.

What it isn't

Lacking a pool. In fact, they have three (including two daybed-lined options that are adults only).

What we think

Frank Sinatra was here. That’s the feeling you get, instantly, at Avalon Hotel, which has preserved the best of Palm Springs’ past while embracing the needs of the current glitterati. (In fact, he was a regular at their sister hotel’s iconic Melvyn’s Restaurant— also a go-to of Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando). Guest rooms are as cinematic as you could want in Palm Springs, without being campy; we love the 350-square-foot Premium Courtyard Studios for their gas fireplaces. If you’re bringing the kids, the One Bedroom Bungalows are a delight, thanks to roomy 700 square foot floor plans and hush-hush locales fringed by verdant manicured gardens. Since it’s always swimsuit season here, the gym is 24/7….and at-the-ready for late night Peloton, steam room or elliptical sessions.

You're here because

You can’t possibly stay in a lackluster business hotel in Palm Springs, where style is paramount. Here, the charming room options are surrounded by lush green gardens rich with jasmine and citrus.

The Moment

After your turquoise sage mud wrap in the spa, you’re ready to treat yourself to an equally relaxing dinner. Under the twinkly lights, your al fresco table at the hotel’s Chi Chi is everything you could ask for…down to the chimichurri flatiron steak and milkshake made with local dates.

Location

A quiet street just off Palm Canyon Drive (a.k.a. Palm Springs’ main drag), just a block from Melvyn’s and four blocks from the Palm Springs Art Museum—where the collection includes Albert Frey’s Frey House II, a midcentury architectural gem.
