Parker Palm Springs

Where Fame Sleeps

What it is

A storied celeb-studded hideaway since 1959, with cheeky interiors by Jonathan Adler, sceney restaurants and a yacht club-themed spa.

What it isn't

Boring. Amenities include a croquet lawn, four Terre Battu clay tennis courts, a petanque lawn, loaner cruiser bikes and a giant chess set (because, why not?).

What we think

Brangelina stayed here, back when they were Brangelina. Former owner Gene Autry was there so much that one of the hotel’s three pools is named after him. But our favorite reason to love the Parker is that they treat everyone like an ascendant star, with privacy galore courtesy of sky-high hedges. The five watering holes and restaurants on-site exude Glamour with a capital G; don’t miss the infamous brunch at Norma’s, set on a Pucci-hued terrace overlooking the palm trees (your order: a seared Maine lobster and asparagus omelet and a short ribs benedict, with sweet potato cake and spicy hollandaise). Guest rooms are as pampering as you’d hope; we particularly love the Hammock Rooms, which are fitted with private outdoor patios and hammocks for lazing with views of the San Jacinto mountains.

You're here because

When you’re in Palm Springs, you have to stay in a Palm Springs-y place, and the Parker is tops (note the literal lemonade stand).

The Moment

The very idea of a yacht club in landlocked Palm Springs made you giggle, at first. But then you stepped foot in the tailored space, with its sky-high ceilings and whispers of nautical style, and knew they were taking it seriously. You don your terry robe, take your thimble-full of cucumber vodka (who needs fruit-infused spa water?), and head to your treatment: a slimming seaweed body wrap. As you leave, you can’t help but whisper what Katharine Hepburn said in The Philadelphia Story: “My, she was yar!”

Restaurants & Bars

Norma's - the brightly colored open-air Terrace restaurant that serves breakfast all day and night

Mister Parker's - dark, discreet, and decadent. Cocktails and dinner Wednesday through Sunday

Counter Reformation - Small bites and wine Thursday through Monday

Mini Bar - a jewel box of a cocktail bar open all week

Location

Tucked a ten-minute drive from downtown Palm Springs for solitude, yet close enough to the action—like Melvyn’s Restaurant, where Frank Sinatra was a regular, and you can still get a flawless martini.
