Del Mar, California
L'Auberge Del Mar
Serene by the Sea
What it is
An oceanfront resort with indulgent guest rooms, a sprawling spa with eucalyptus saunas and fire pits, and four buzzing restaurants and bars (one poolside).
What it isn't
Just for people. The resort is truly pet friendly, welcoming two dogs up to 75 pounds in each room (and pampering them with an amenity at check in, like the VIPs they are).
What we think
When iconic Hollywood legends like Bing Crosby or Lucille Ball needed an escape from LaLaLand, they often decamped to the circa 1910 Stratford Inn, perched along the Pacific Ocean in Del Mar. Now rebranded, reborn, and newly fresh from a recent revamp, the resort lures the glitterati once again: this time with Barclay Butera-designed guest rooms and sumptuous amenities that range from poolside cabanas to loaner beach cruiser bikes. We love that every guest room feels luxe and peaceful, thanks to a palette of cloud grays and marble-lined bathrooms. It’s worth booking a Junior Suite—each has two private balconies and a 450 square foot floor plan—or splurging on a Pacific One Bedroom Suite, which looks out on (you guessed it) the frothy Pacific Ocean.
You're here because
The staffers have thought of everything guests could desire, including a L’Auberge Beach Valet to whir you to the sandy shoreline in a golf cart.
The only thing more delicious than the salty sea air at Adelaide, the hotel’s charming indoor/outdoor restaurant, are their oysters: culled from the Pacific Ocean and charcoal roasted, then served with mezcal butter and a dusting of dried chile and lime.
