What we think

If you’ve ever wanted to enter a fairytale sprung to resplendent life right here in the United States, Château du Sureau is the spot. There are no fairy godmothers here, yet you’ll be granted wish after wish, instantly. Each guest room is enchanting, including the “starter” 350 square foot Ciboulette Room—which is adorned with a tapestry from Europe, wood burning fireplace, a French Provençal desk for writing Shakespeare-worthy sonnets, and shower sheathed in limestone direct from Switzerland. Our favorite choice might be the Chamomile Room for its king-size canopy bed, corner fireplace and juliet balcony ideal for sipping your pinot as you take in the alpine air.

The Moment

After treating yourself at the spa to a hydromassage with seaweed and salts pulled from the ocean, you’re ready to indulge even further with a five course dinner at Elderberry House. Every bite is more delectable than the last, but the charcoal brioche with smoked butter and spruce powder really is local: it tastes like the best of Yosemite on a plate.
