Colorado Springs, Colorado
Rocky Mountain Marvelous
What it is
A 784-room Italian Renaissance-style mountainside lodge that’s now among the most activity-stocked resorts in the world.
What it isn't
Rustic. Yes, you’re in the shadow of 14,115-foot-tall Pikes Peak here, but the hotel is nothing short of extravagant, with nightly turndown service, valet, and 24-hour room service.
What we think
When it opened in 1918, The Broadmoor started things off with a bang heard across the Rockies: John D. Rockefeller was the first guest. It’s since grown into the type of haunt both boldfaced names and business kingpins like to call a home away from home, thanks in part to nonstop curated adventures available. Want to golf where both presidents and PGA Cups have? Hit the Broadmoor Golf Club, gearing up for the 2025 U.S. Senior Open, with courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., and Donald Ross. Want to learn to fly fish for trout on some 120,000 acres? Try for the Broadmoor Fly Fishing Camp, complete with its own circa 1920s cabins. Back in the main hotel, rooms are traditionally tailored to the max, with tufted, scrolled-arm chairs, carved wood furniture and canopied beds.
You're here because
You’re traveling with your kids, and nearly every element of the hotel can be tailored to tots, whether they want to join you in the spa for a junior mani/pedi combo or do a horse “walk”—rather than ride—if they’re younger than seven.
Settled in at the Golden Bee restaurant, you could squint and think you’re in London—and you practically are. The woodwork was ferried here from a 19th century pub in England, and the menu follows suit, with beer steamed mussels and perfect bangers and mash. But you’re not expecting one little only-at-the-Broadmoor trademark, courtesy of your waitress: when you order, she flicks an embroidered bee patch at you, and it sticks—just like your newfound love for this place.
