The Gabriel Miami South Beach
Curio Collection by Hilton
What it is
Fronting Ocean Drive, this 132-room Art Deco-era hideaway is what Florida dreams are made of, with a palm tree flanked pool peeping out on the sea.
What it isn't
Stuck in time. The property was recently revamped, so it feels brand new.
What we think
The 1940s were delicious design years, from the architecture to the fashion (note Frank Sinatra’s hats). It’s no surprise that the exterior of The Gabriel looks like it belongs in the Instagram feed of @accidentallywesanderson. Inside, though, rooms are fresh and modern; expect blonde hardwood floors, floor to ceiling windows, hand-tufted wool rugs underfoot and even Miami-made graphic art gracing the walls. Insider tip: forget about maintaining your swimsuit bod when you’re ordering at Mia Cucina Italiana, the hotel’s new Italian restaurant; their housemade pastas are completely worth it.
You're here because
You love a #throwback moment, and the Conga line was invented right here. (The Gabriel still loans out Conga drums to guests that feel like cutting loose).
The Moment
Sitting under a towering mural of a flamingo at the Bar at Dalia, you’re having a pinch me evening...you feel, after each sip of your frothy cocktail, like you’re in a scene from Golden Girls. Is it the horseshoe shaped bar? The glamazons of all ages carpe diem-ing? Or the fact that the entire room sits facing the lushly-scented open air? This is where good nights get great.
