Mansion on Forsyth Park

Modern History

What it is

A 126-room housed in a Victorian Romanesque brick mansion with an al fresco pool and indulgent spa.

What it isn't

Dated. It's fitted with all latter day amenities you could want, including AC, whirlpool baths and separate showers, and allllll the channels, from HBO to ESPN.

What we think

For anyone who wants to dip their toe in Savannah’s history without giving up typical hotel necessities—ergonomic workstations; a Bose stereo; lightning-fast WiFi—Mansion on Forsyth Park is your spot. Decor in the large rooms (starting at 425 square feet) combines clean-lined tables and lamps with some decidedly flouncy flourishes, including oversized rococo headboards, lime green tufted wingback armchairs, and crystal candelabra-inspired sconces supplying a dose of glitz in the marble bathroom. It’s well-worth booking the Executive King for views of Forsyth Park from floor-to-ceiling windows and an extra-roomy floor plan at 625-square-feet.

You're here because

In addition to two restaurants, the hotel has a cooking school on-site that will have you sipping a Kessler house wine and whipping up Low Country staples like succotash, shrimp and grits and a berry crumble with wildflower honey in no time.

The Moment

Sitting by the roaring fire at 700 Drayton, one of the more lauded restaurant in a town that loves to eat, you opt for appetizers that would do any Georgian proud. Fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and smoked bacon jam and hushpuppies made with zucchini and corn. Just call it Southern Comfort.

Restaurants & Bars

700 Drayton Restaurant - modern Southern dining and a relaxed atmosphere.

Casimir's Lounge - Rooftop lounge is the perfect place to sip a cocktail.

Location

Directly across Drayton Street from Forsyth Park, Savannah’s own version of Central Park. Just six blocks away: Mercer Williams House Museum, the Italianate estate made famous by the iconic book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.”
