Savannah, Georgia

Thompson Savannah

Tower of Style

What it is

A new jewel in the city’s crown with 193 sleek guest rooms, a cabana-lined pool deck and rooftop bar, artisanal bakery, and a riverfront Southern restaurant.

What it isn't

Lacking in wellness perks. The hotel has everything from loaner bikes to a gym stocked with cardio machines, Pelotons, yoga equipment and more.

What we think

Block by block, Savannah is rumored to be the most haunted city in America…and it feels like it, thanks to its centuries-old Gothic Revival homes and live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. But if you’re the type of person you’d rather dip your toe in history than live in it full time, the ultra luxe (and freshly built) Thompson Savannah is an unbeatable hotel. Each and every guest room has floor to ceiling windows (many with river views), herringbone wood floors, and rainfall shower heads in the charmingly tiled baths, and lavish touches, down to the D.S. & Durga toiletries and Sferra bed linens. King rooms begin at 340 square feet; to sprawl out even further, we love the 535 Premier Suite Corner, Riverfront for its fully separate living room and proud perch overlooking the Savannah River.

You're here because

Sadly, ye olde 19th century hotels in Savannah don’t have pools—and this particular pool deck is exquisite, with loungers set right in the water, private cabanas and cocktails at the ready (order the No Alibi, with vodka, banana, chamomile honey and lemon verjus).

The Moment

“Dazzling” is the word you think of when you step foot in Fleeting, the hotel’s Art Deco-esque, fiercely local restaurant by Executive Chef Victoria Shore. Tonight, you can’t help but indulge, and her menu is up to the task: with roasted oysters in sun dried tomato butter and fried capers and wood grilled fish with chanterelle butter and stevedore bread crumbs.

Restaurants & Bars

Fleeting - Elevated coastal Southern cuisine

Bar by Fleeting - Offering hand-crafted cocktails, wines and thoughtful snacks

Bar Julian - Mediterranean-inspired menu with elevated bar snacks, locally-inspired pizzas and hand-crafted cocktails

Stevedore Bakery - Pastries made from ingredients grown locally

Location

A mere block from the river, and 1.5 miles from the Mercer-Williams House Museum—famous for its star turn in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
