Chicago, Illinois
The Peninsula Chicago
Refined downtown haven
What it is
Just revamped, the Peninsula Chicago lures with doting staff and truly exquisite rooms.
What it isn't
Hip. If you want in-room turntables, stay elsewhere. This is steeped in elegance befitting The Queen.
What we think
It’s fitting that The Peninsula Chicago sits on Superior Street, because it is—superior in every single way. Enormous rooms (the smallest is 531 square feet, larger than many New York apartments) contain tablets that will control the lighting at the push of button; smartphone charging stations by the bed; and custom Bernardaud China adjacent to the Nespresso machine. The Peninsula Academy allows guests insider experiences they’d never get anywhere else: you can make Cantonese dim sum with the head chef or even get a private, behind-the-scenes tour at The Art Institute of Chicago.
You're here because
There’s a half-Olympic sized swimming pool—a rarity in the city—on the 19th floor, with 20 foot high windows that overlook the skyline.
The Moment
You weren’t alive to experience Shanghai’s 1930s supper clubs, so you’re thrilled they’ve been recreated here in Shanghai Terrace—reportedly the best Chinese restaurant in the city. With lychee cocktails and lobster and duck dumplings on the menu, you’re inclined to agree.
