The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
Charmed Icon
What it is
A fabled stay since 1907, reborn anew for the latter-day glitterati with 504 luxe rooms and an exquisite spa and a rooftop pool.
What it isn't
Hands off. Guests can expect the legendary service that made Waldorf Astoria a household name, down to a shoe shiner with 50 years of experience.
What we think
Grace Kelly. Marilyn Monroe. Audrey Hepburn. All silver screen sirens, yes—and all former guests of The Roosevelt. (Not impressed by Hollywood? Maybe the fact that everyone from Dwight Eisenhower to Bill Clinton have stayed here will wow you). The hotel certainly wowed them—and continues to delight today’s travelers, thanks to a recent $145 million renovation that made it a jewel in the crown of New Orleans. We particularly love that The Sazerac Bar—a Deco-era gem where the superstar cocktail was born—is like a perfectly preserved step back in time, down to the curved African walnut bar top and Paul Ninas murals. Rooms upstairs are tailored and traditional, with mahogany wood furniture and pampering extras (Ferragamo toiletries, to name but one).
You're here because
When you fly South, you do as the locals do—and that means indulging in copious amounts of fried chicken. At the hotel’s Fountain Lounge, the recipe has been honed over four decades by Chef Carl Cusheberry and is served every Monday night as the perfect antidote to cases of The Mondays.
The Moment
Admittedly, you had a little too much fun in the French Quarter last night. But isn’t that the point of N’Awlins? Thankfully, the hotel’s spa is at-the-ready with The Cure Facial—the detox for every pore you never knew you needed. Afterwards, you indulge in an Organic Sugar Body Glow, complete with a kombucha body wash and ginger lime scrub down. It’s not long before you’re as feeling as boundless as a young Marlon Brando—circa 1951’s A Streetcar Named Desire.
