A Back Bay institution, with 148 opulent rooms, a holistic spa and a Bar Boloud.
Fitted with a pool. But in Boston, where the average daily temperature is 58 degrees, you won’t miss it.
Rooms at Mandarin Oriental Boston are everything one expects from the brand: streamlined and luxurious, with subtle nods to Asia in the form of bamboo flooring, silk curtains and Deco-meets-chinoiserie detailing. Upgrade to a Deluxe Room for a corner sofa straight out of Silver Screen Hollywood and a space carefully dotted with charming Asian artifacts. We love that the room service menu here is every bit as divinely planned as what you’ll find in the restaurants downstairs; don’t miss ordering the whipped lemon ricotta buttermilk pancakes at breakfast and steamed pork dumplings with ponzu sauce after your bar crawl.
This being a Mandarin Oriental, service is extra pampering (note the 16,000-square foot spa).
Chef Daniel Boloud is appropriately choosy when it comes to where he places his name, but it’s no surprise this hotel was up to snuff for a Bar Boulud. This one, with wine barrel vaulted ceilings and a wall hewn of reclaimed wine crates, is an oenophiles dream. You belly up to the zinc-topped bar and order a glass of bubbly and a delectable horde of bistro classics (roasted bone marrow with veal jus; escargot—direct from Burgundy—in garlic almond herb butter). It’s a trip to France, by way of the Back Bay.
