An Opulent Mansion
What it is
A 1902 Tudor estate on 110 acres in the Berkshires with flickering fireplaces galore and much-lauded restaurants.
What it isn't
Boring. Activities on offer include maple sugaring, hot air balloon rides, hitting the slopes at any of six nearby ski resorts and tasting at nearby vineyards; ask the Guest Relations Manager to arrange whatever thrills you like.
What we think
Haven’t inherited a Tudor estate lately? No matter. This one—a member of Relais & Chateaux—is even better. For one thing, your own manor wouldn’t come with this level of service (Blantyre has won so many “best hotel” awards from travel magazines there are too many to mention; the farm-to-table restaurants include live piano music by local Karen Tchougourian). For another, rates include free reign use of the on-site walking trails, al fresco pool, steam room, sauna and Har-Tru tennis courts. And even “standard” rooms here—all traditionally styled and dotted with revamped antiques—are anything but, with goose down pillows, 400-thread-count linens and even loaner iPads. Feel like getting away from it all? Book a separate cottage like the Old Bath House, with a deck that peeps out on adjacent meadowlands.
You're here because
Copious pours of bubbly are required when you’re on vacay, and Blantyre has its own (wait for it) Dom Pérignon-inspired Champagne Salon, where raclette and fondue are the other orders of the day. If there was ever a time to order a vintage from 1971 to the tune of $4,400, this might be it.
Morning walk? Check. Infused water in the Vitality Bar? Check. Now, it’s time to “treat yo’self,” as the meme goes, in the spa. You didn’t fully believe that the Triple Berry Brightening Facial—with pepper berries, muntries and riberry brought in from Australia—would resuscitate your tired skin, but one look in the mirror and you’re a convert: you could be 25 again.
Deep within its own wooded estate in Lenox, Massachusetts, the resort is still just a mile from The Mount— writer Edith Wharton’s sprawling 1902 estate, now a museum and de facto event center.
Restaraunts & Bars
Dining Room - Blantyre's main dining room offers a variety of elegant American food for every meal of the day. Dining is truly an experience here where tables are set with sterling silver, fine china, and crystal and usually accompanied by live piano-playing.
