Berkshires Beauty

What it is

A 48-room hideaway on an 80-acre leafy plot of the Berkshires mountains, with an inherent summer camp vibe.

What it isn't

Without charming activities. You can opt to do everything from take a fire-building class to stargaze with s’mores to go “forest bathing” (fully clothed), right on the property.

What we think

For anyone who needs a reset of their very soul, Tourists is the spot. Let’s start with the guest rooms themselves: artful, calming riffs on the mid century motor lodge, but revamped for today’s aesthetes with blonde wood furniture, bleach white walls and sleek windows that turn the lush views into art. Book the Ramble room for a window nook daybed, private deck and a proximity so close to the Hoosic River you can fall asleep to rushing water. Want to spread out? The Sanford Suite has its own kitchenette and dining area, plus an expansive outdoor deck and king bed you won’t want to get out of. We love that in addition to toothsome meal menus, the hotel has snacks available from 12 - 9 pm that range from rosemary spiced nuts and spinach and artichoke dip to grilled cheese on peasant bread with tomato soup. Drool. Did we mention the hotel has its own radio station on Spotify?

You're here because

The expertly curated hotel shop—which includes Blacksaw baby alpaca throw blankets and soap made of avocado oil and sea minerals—tells you everything you need to know about staying here.

The Moment

There’s something about the Tourist’s breakfast menu that makes you want to pull on your hiking boots and be...a tourist. This morning, as the sun settles over the land, you opt for challah french toast and a Nordic Board—cured salmon, smoked trout, hard boiled egg, pickled onions, capers and seeded crackers.

Location

Downtown North Adams, about a three hour drive from Boston and a seven minute drive from Clark Art Institute—where the 140 acre grounds include works by John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer.
