Casa Cipriani New York
A Legend Reborn
What it is
An iconic 1909 Beaux Arts ferry terminal at the foot of Manhattan, newly transformed into an ultra luxe boutique hotel with 47 rooms that peer out on Lady Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge.
What it isn't
Zapped of its architectural charms. Expect vaulted ceilings; herringbone tiles; and more flouncy flourishes than a 19th century ball gown.
What we think
You would think New Yorkers would have already pillaged every grande dame to suit latter day tastes, but no. In Casa Cipriani, they’re restoring buried treasure. Within its storied walls, guests will find a hush-hush Private Members Club (yes, that person flanked by security guards in the corner is who you think they are), a gym to keep you looking like your version of New York finest, and ultra luxe guest rooms where gleaming furniture and sumptuous fabrics will impress even The Next Bloomberg. Ask for The Roebling Suite, named for the mastermind behind the Brooklyn Bridge, for a silver soaking tub that overlooks the 1869 showpiece.
You're here because
This is New York, so staying in an art-filled oasis is kind of a must. Here, the walls hang with paintings by Julian Schnabel.
The Moment
There’s something about the misty, slightly salty air at the Battery Maritime Building that feels instantly restorative. Perhaps because if you close your eyes, you could be standing on a yacht...even firmly on Manhattan’s shores.
Restaurants & Bars
Cipriani Restaurant, offering Italian cuisine, will open Summer 2021
Location
Tucked inside the Battery Maritime Building, next door to the Staten Island Ferry’s Whitehall Terminal. Just a block away, and worth seeing if you have wee ones in tow: SeaGlass Carousel, where you can ride a glimmering, glowing fish.
