Four Seasons New York Downtown

Foodie HotSpot

What it is

The pride of TriBeCa, with 189 sleek rooms, a beloved spa and a restaurant by Wolfgang Puck.

What it isn't

Artless. The hotel’s expertly curated collection includes Canadian sculptor Bruno Billio’s “Gold Book Tower” and a painting by London artist Orlanda Broom.

What we think

Great service is paramount at Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown. Need someone to walk your pooch, then dogsit while you take a spin around Saks? Done. Want to book a helicopter tour? Just tell staffers when and where. (It should go without saying that the hotel also has multilingual concierges, 24-hour business help, a valet, and plenty of perks just for kiddos). Guest rooms are every bit as pampering, with deep soaking tubs in the spa-like bathrooms, twice daily housekeeping (and evening ice delivery for cocktail-hour), a Bose stereo and loaner iPad for ordering room service, and a MyBar pre-stocked with edible gems from the neighborhood. If you’re traveling with friends or fam, consider upgrading to the Empire Suite, a penthouse with a gas fireplace, media room, full kitchen and dining room ready to host a fête.

You're here because

Unlike the vast majority of New York City hotels, this one has a pool—and a pristine one at that, with a mosaic-lined floor that twinkles in the daylight.

The Moment

Famously West Coast chef Wolfgang Puck chose this hotel for his first New York outpost, and you can see why: it has welcoming clubby vibes that make you want to linger...and linger. Tonight, as you tuck into his Jonah crab and Maine lobster risotto with preserved lemon and saffron, you can’t help but wonder—what was he waiting for? Even New York needed a chef like this.

Location

On Barclay Street in downtown Manhattan, just three blocks from One World Trade Center and, three blocks in the other direction, another New York icon: the Brooklyn Bridge, built in 1869 and still a showstopper.
