Callicoon Center, New York
Callicoon Hills
Hip & Historic
What it is
A campy family-owned Catskills resort turned high-style retreat, with 65 classic rooms, a throwback supper club and coffee shop, and seasonal outdoor pool.
What it isn't
Boring. This isn’t your grandpa’s Catskills: activities range from drag shows visiting nearby spas.
What we think
New Yorkers once flocked to the Catskills over the Hamptons for generations precisely because of resorts like this, with simple summer pleasures at every turn. Callicoon Hills room offerings are kitted with custom wood furniture (many with Instagrammable sculptural silhouettes) and Malin & Goetz toiletries, subway-tile-lined showers, and—bliss—in-room controls for heat and AC. You can opt to stay in the main Boarding House, which was built in the early 1900s, the midcentury Pool House, or Ridge Rooms, which overlook the forest and sit along an expanse of green lawn dotted with adirondack chairs. Be sure to stop in at the Rise & Shine Coffee Shop in the main house for locally made Grizzly Bagels and sheep’s milk yogurt parfaits topped with pomegranate and housemade apple jam.
You're here because
You need to unplug, and not one of their guest rooms has a TV…an unlikely form of heaven.
The Moment
If brunch is “a thing” in New York City, it’s really a thing at the resort’s Conover Club. The menu rivals anything you’d find back in town, including latkes with smoked salmon, poached eggs and lemony hollandaise sauce and buttermilk pancakes with locally sourced maple syrup.

Location
A two hour drive from midtown Manhattan but a leafy world away. Crystal Lake Wild Forest is just 8 miles up the road, and has wetlands, a lake and beaver pond on its 497-acre expanse.
