Avoiding the Finger Lakes wine scene. Oenophiles will be right at home, thanks to expertly curated regional wines at wood-fired restaurant Rose Tavern and Sand Bar—a waterside staple since 1994, which the team thoughtfully preserved (don’t miss the lobster rolls).

What we think

If Martha Stewart herself were reborn as a hotel, she’d be made into something just exactly like this: with just enough shiplap siding to be traditional, and just enough supple Mid Century leather seating to be “now.” Activities seem torn from the pages of Living: sailing the mirror-like lake waters; meandering the lush on-site gardens; sipping cocktails on the dock. All 125 rooms are fitted with hand-carved blonde wood furniture designed specifically for the property by The Brooklyn Home Company; Waterworks rain showers and unlacquered brass fixtures; Nespresso machines; and handmade toiletries. We love the Premium Lake Suites for their four post beds and private balconies set overlooking Canandaigua Lake itself. Did we mention each room has a mini bar pre-stocked with snacks and tipples from local Finger Lakes companies? Now that’s a good thing.
