Portland, Oregon

The Hi-Lo Hotel

An Autograph Collection Hotel

What it is

A 1910 office building transformed into a locally-inspired hotel, with an on-site gym and seasonal restaurant with ingredients from regional farms.

What it isn't

Equipped with its own spa. But the service is doting enough to make you feel totally pampered.

What we think

The spirit of Portlandia—where creativity and self-expression are encouraged—is alive and well at the Hi-Lo. Each guest room here is a paean to Portland, thanks to its hand-painted wallpaper; graphic throw pillows made by Oregon’s Pendleton Woolen Mills, founded back in 1863; and locally milled reclaimed barn wood surfaces. (Bonus: a pillow menu so you’re as comfy as you are at home, and radiant heated flooring that takes the chill off Portland’s frequent drizzly days). Book the Corner King for rounded windows, soaring raw concrete ceilings and a panoramic view over Old Town. Or the penthouse level One Bedroom Suite, with an entirely separate dining and living room—ideal if you feel like inviting Fred Armisen or Carrie Brownstein to cocktail hour.

You're here because

You love a great hotel gift shop, and The Merchant is stocked with a bounty of Portland-made wares, including Maak Lab, whose fragrances include Labside—scented with white cedar and magazines.

The Moment

The only-in-Oregon vibe continues in the bar at CraftPDX, where you’re ensconced in a fawn-brown leather banquette and sipping a Log Cabin cocktail. Your order tonight? Oregon bay shrimp to start, and braised Northwest elk and polenta. Fred and Carrie-approved.
