Charleston, South Carolina

The Palmetto Hotel

Southern Charmer

What it is

A brand new hotel with all the allure of a grande dame, thanks to halls stocked with antique art, colorful yet classic interiors, and a buzzing local bar.

What it isn't

Pecking. A full (and free!) European-style breakfast buffet is served each morning from 7-10 in the lobby, including both hot and cold deliciousness to kick-start your day right.

What we think

Charleston is pure eye candy, as anyone who has ever stepped a pastel-heeled foot there can attest. It can be hard for new hotels to measure up. But The Palmetto wowed locals and Charleston enthusiasts alike the moment it opened, thanks to highly curated antique artworks that mingle with contemporary finds amid timeless yet airy furnishings—a plate wall here, a French ticking stripe wingback there. Guest rooms are plush, including embroidered bathrobes, Nespresso machines, and toiletries from Bamford—an herbaceous sustainable brand founded in the U.K. The 275-square-foot Deluxe King rooms come with oversized windows and palm wallpaper that feels oh-so–Southern; we love the Premium King Balcony rooms for their 360-square-foot floor plans with a separate sitting area and, yes, private balcony perfect for peering out on the storied cityscape with a cuppa.

You're here because

You wake up hangry and love an included continental breakfast. Plus, service here is exemplary and includes nightly turndown, loaner bikes, and zippy free wifi.

The Moment

After a morning of pounding the cobblestones, you need a drink…and a moment out of the heat. You’re delighted to find the lobby bar is nothing less than cinematic, with its burnished brass stools and flower-dotted cocktails. Southern comfort, indeed.
