Zero George Street

Storied Hideaway

What it is

A dignified, food-focused retreat set within a collection of circa 1804 estates.

What it isn't

A doily-dotted B&B. Rooms are chic and timeless with plenty of modern day amenities (Nespresso machines, HDTVs, Sealy Posturepedic mattresses, and triple sheeted Italian Frette linens).

What we think

Charleston is among the most welcoming locales in America, if not the world. Here, people still greet you on the sidewalk, still wish you “Good Morning,” still hold the door for you with pleasure. So it’s no surprise that Zero George, named for its tony address, rolls out the luxe red carpet for guests. You’ll find a full breakfast spread (including Oprah beloved local favorite Callie’s Biscuits and housemade granola), and nightly wine and cheese hour included in your rate, plus the sort of architectural details that drop visitor’s jaws, such as period millwork, heart pine flooring and sky-high ceilings. We particularly love that the hotel may be named after a zero, but they treat you like Number One, with free loaner bikes, a 24-hour Miele coffee center, turndown service and concierges available to satisfy every whim.

You're here because

The hotel maintains its own cooking school in an 1804 carriage house, complete with a Heston range (recent chef instructors include Kristen Kish, Top Chef winner and Instagram darling).

The Moment

Conde Nast Traveler voted this a Best New Food Hotel for good reason, which you’re beginning to learn as soon as you sit down at Zero Restaurant + Bar. On tonight’s four course menu? Anson Mills Sea island red peas with burrata and nasturtium, organic chicken with carrots cooked in smoked butter, and tres leches with young coconut and honeycomb, all served like some edible version of MoMa. Sigh.
