Southall Farm & Inn

The New South

What it is

A modernist 62-room, 16-cottage respite on 325 rolling acres with three locavore bars and restaurants, a heated outdoor pool and wellness-oriented spa—all on Lake Mishkin.

What it isn't

Boring. Guests can indulge in all manner of unexpected thrills on site for an additional fee, including an aerial adventure course with ziplines, an axe-throwing course, and beeswax candle making.

What we think

If your vision of the countryside beyond Nashville is all honky tonks, think twice. Southall epitomizes modern lakeside living, from its Nordic, clean-lined architecture slung along a lake to its Gwyneth Paltrow-worthy pursuits (yes, this is the spot to treat yourself to a medicinal herbal tea and honey ceremony.) The enormous guest rooms are both streamlined and fanciful, decorated as they are with sleek canopy beds and fairytale wallpapers. We love the 494 square foot Polk King for its Italian porcelain tile-lined bathroom and soaking tub, dreamy canopy bed and equally Instagrammable sofa upholstered in a rich floral motif. Bringing the fam? Consider a cottage; the Hillside cottage has two king bedrooms, gas fireplace in the spacious living room and a leafy patio ideal for sipping sweet tea at all hours. Either way, expect amenities galore, including rainfall showers, Bluetooth soundbars, double vanities and more.

You're here because

You want to explore your agrarian roots without actually buying the farm. Here, you can tour their apiary (home to some 4 million bees), 1,300-tree apple orchard, and flourishing fields at your leisure—without breaking a sweat.

The Moment

After your lavender massage and vegan mani/pedi in the spa, you’re dying to hit the town—or, better, a buzzing boîte right on the premises. And the foraged menu at the hotel’s Sojourner restaurant, with its smoked trout dip and green gumbo with Southall greens and Carolina Gold Rice, is just the ticket.

Restaurants & Bars

January - Coming soon! An intimate dining room featuring panoramic farm views, the signature restaurant, January, offers soul-stirring multi-course journeys that are meant to be savored.

Sojourner - Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Sojourner features homemade pastries, fresh-from-the-coop egg specialties, seasonally inspired dishes, and handcrafted cocktails.

Pool Bar - For delicious craft cocktails, refreshing non-alcoholic beverages, and seasonal offerings, our pool bar provides the perfect setting to soak up the sun and enjoy a casual bite to eat by the pool.

Location

Less than a 30 minute drive south of downtown Nashville, and five miles from Carnton—an 1826 Greek Revival estate that’s now a nonprofit where you can explore Civil War battlefields and the dwellings of the enslaved.
