What it is
Located on Music Lane in the popular South Congress neighborhood of Austin, the 89-room Hotel Magdalena takes inspiration from the natural green space of central Texas, Barton Springs in Austin, and early 1970s lakeside culture.
What it isn't
An only-in-Austin experience. Their on-site shop and apothecary is beautifully curated with things you’ll actually want to take home, including “Smoke on the Water” ceramic candles and rope dog toys in the shape of peace signs.
What we think
“Keep Austin Weird” is an iconic motto ‘round these parts for good reason. Indeed, oddities should be celebrated (anything less is boring)—and that’s partially why we can never stay in a stuffy business hotel in this town. Part of the Bunkhouse family of hotels, Hotel Magdalena epitomizes the particular quirks we live to experience when we travel. The hotel features four new, distinct buildings connected by exposed elevated walkways and courtyards, creating a treehouse feel inside the grounds. Complete with a pool, restaurant, poolside bar, event space, and newly opened vinyl bar, the property offers a plethora of activities all while remaining tucked away from the bustling South Congress and Music Lane neighborhood.

They roll out the proverbial red carpet for dogs. Plus, the poolside Magdalena Bar makes a strong piña colada. The sunny and spacious second floor lobby features a tambour front desk and a custom terrazzo floor, with expansive windows that look onto the century old heritage oak. With Willie Nelson on the turntable and smells from the live fire grill at Summer House on Music Lane wafting through the air, Hotel Magdalena feels like Texas, and, in turn, feels like home.
The Moment
The hotel’s restaurant, Summer House on Music Lane, was inspired by Austin lakeside living. The local ribeye with herbed butter and caramelized onion dip is pure Texas heat.

Hotel Magdalena's full-service restaurant, Summer House on Music Lane, offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between – enjoy culinary garden views with during weekday happy hour, or lively brunch available on the weekends. Equipment Room is a new high-fidelity vinyl bar located in the basement. The property also boasts a guest-only pool bar located right off the 900-square-foot sunken pool.

The hotel is situated on Music Lane off of the iconic South Congress Avenue home to some of Austin’s most vibrant culture and history, overlooking Downtown and the Capitol, and steps away from sister properties Hotel Saint Cecilia, Hotel San José, Austin Motel, and Jo’s Coffee.
