Magnolia Hotel Houston

Where Business Meets Pleasure

What it is

A 314 retreat in the 1926 former HQ of the Houston Post Dispatch newspaper, with a rooftop lap pool and one of Houston’s best bars.

What it isn't

Sleeping on the job. CEO-worthy amenities include a 24-hour business center, on-site dry cleaning and laundry service, and valet and limo/town car service for all your exploits.

What we think

Business tycoons will want for nothing at Magnolia Houston. 400-square-foot starter guest rooms are fitted with exec-ready work stations, velvet draperies, in-room coffee and tea stations for energy boosts and oversized tubs in the marble and granite bathtubs. If you’re celebrating something, upgrading to the Ross Sterling suite is totally worth it, thanks to its private VIP elevator access, nightly turndown (complete with a cookie buffet—don’t tell your dentist), and eye-popping panorama of the Houston skyline. Staying a while? The hotel’s Signature King Suites have full kitchens.

You're here because

You absolutely must have a topnotch room service program (no lukewarm fries!), and Magnolia’s is among the best in Texas. On the in-room dining menu here: grilled Texas quail bites in red wine demi-glace and adobo-rubbed steaks served with wilted baby kale.

The Moment

You loved sipping your barrel-aged Don Juio margarita and rubbing elbows with Houston locals so much last night that you’re headed back to the Lounge for breakfast. And what a kick-start to the morning it is, with chorizo breakfast tacos, brioche french toast and the best lox and bagels you’ve had since your last trip to Brooklyn.

Location

Smack dab in the heart of downtown Houston, just a few blocks walk from the lake kayaking at Discovery Green park and, for history buffs, The Heritage Society, a lakeside museum and park where you can tour original 19th-century buildings from the city’s oil boom, now surrounded by skyscrapers.
