The Tides Inn

Wow on the Water

What it is

Flanking Chesapeake Bay: an iconic 70-room respite with a marina, four locavore bars and restaurants, pickleball and tennis, golf, water sports galore and a serene spa.

What it isn't

Artless. The resort’s Maker Space gives guests the chance to learn pottery at the wheel with their resident artist, attend a “painting and pinot” class, and so much more.

What we think

If we could only use one word to describe The Tides Inn, it would be: idyllic. Every guest room here is an exquisite hideaway with timeless furniture, a peaceful color palette of blues and whites, and luxe amenities, from the 700-thread-count bed linens from Italy’s Fili d’Oro to the Nespresso machine. Resort view guest rooms start at a generous 312-feet, but the Water View rooms are totally worthy of a splurge. How often do you get to look out to the ever-changing Chesapeake Bay waterscape that’s inspired legions of artists over the centuries? We particularly love the Water View Balcony King for its private balcony (complete with a bistro set) overlooking the Bay. Did we mention every room comes with comped snacks and bottled water? No wonder generations of families stay here year after year, and have since 1947. While you’re here, be sure to check in with their staff ecologist and horticulturist to learn what they’re doing to protect the local species and waterways...and even hold an oyster, known for their almost supernatural ability to filter 50 gallons of water a day.

You're here because

The resort fee includes oh-so-much, including loaner kayaks, canoes and paddle boards; cruiser bikes and trikes; clay tennis courts and pickleball; par 3 golfing; bocce and lawn croquet; car service in the surrounding five miles; and so much more.

The Moment

True to its name, Chesapeake Restaurant and Terrace draws foodstuffs from the adjacent waters—including blue crab and the freshest oysters you’ve ever tasted served with pomegranate mignonette. But it’s the Tides Inn Crab Cakes with lemon beurre blanc you’ll be telling your grandkids about.

Restaurants & Bars

Chesapeake Restaurant & Terrace - Where New England seafood meets southern comfort. Featuring terrace seating and new seasonal menus with fresh, locally-sourced dishes for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Fish Hawk Oyster Bar - A casual, coastal eatery at the Tides Inn featuring indoor and outdoor seating along Carter’s Creek, grab-and-go seafood favorites, an indoor raw bar, smoothies, wine, craft beer and signature cocktails.

Location

Tucked along a calm cove of the Chesapeake Bay less than three hours from Washington, D.C. and about an hour from Richmond.
