Park Hyatt Melbourne

Tower of Grandeur

What it is

A welcoming 245-room retreat with a mosaic-tiled pool, an outdoor tennis court, two restaurants and a holistic spa.

What it isn't

Lacking for the finer things. Amenities here include 24-hour valet, babysitting, in-the-know concierges, and, of course, room service (get the Black Angus burger with bacon and Swiss cheese on a brioche bun).

What we think

If we were judging Park Hyatt Melbourne like a book by its cover, we’d be wowed. Not only is the Art Deco-inspired tower architecturally beautiful, but it’s flanked by manicured gardens that take their cues from Tuscan estates. Of course, the jaw-dropping continues inside. Guest rooms are lined in gleaming madrona wood panelled walls, with graphically upholstered headboards, opaque glass doors and all the five star amenities you’ve come to expect from Park Hyatt, including walk-in wardrobes, Bose bluetooth speakers and Nespresso coffee machines for your morning jolt. We recommend the Park Suite King for its curve-walled panorama over the cityscape (including St. Patrick’s Cathedral), not to mention spa-like soaking tub.

You're here because

The guest rooms are reportedly the largest in Melbourne, starting at a whopping 516 square feet.

The Moment

No afternoon tea will ever quite live up to the parade of edible loveliness at the Tea Lounge. From your seat overlooking the hotel’s own lush gardens, you sip your Earl Gray as your waiter brings petit fours, finger sandwiches and housemade scones with clotted cream and jam...each more divine than the last.

Location

On Parliament Square, a block from 150-year-old Fitzroy Gardens—beloved by architecture enthusiasts for its miniature Tudor village (look for the to-scale model of Shakespeare’s own home).
