Treetops Lodge And Estate
Eco-Friendly Estate
What it is
A reprieve from reality on 2,500 lush and leafy acres of the North Island, with an omnipresent sustainable ethos.
What it isn't
Tired. Recently revamped, the property is chockablock with New Zealand eye candy, from fieldstone fireplaces to Maori folklore-carved beams.
What we think
If you’ve ever stood agape at the beauty of a century-old tree, Treetops Lodge & Estate is guaranteed to drop your jaw: it’s surrounded by thick swaths of 800-year-old untouched native forest, fitted with 35 miles of private hiking trails, horseback riding and rainbow trout fishing in both lake and stream. But this is no dusty dude ranch. Treetops is tops design-wise, too—the villas are modernist dreams, with floor to ceiling windows and reflecting pools that flank their stone stepped entrances; inside, supple leather sofas and copper light fixtures cast an aura of instant warmth. Guests have guaranteed entrée to the Jack Nicklaus-designed, 18-hole Kinloch Club golf course nearby.
You're here because
It’s a fly fisher’s mecca, and you’re determined to perfect your cast—or at least get it on par with Brad Pitt’s, circa A River Runs Through It.
The Moment
You like to eat like a locavore when you can, but you didn’t realize just how locavore you could eat until you were standing in Treetops’ organic gardens, picking wasabi, kumera and fresh turmeric yourself in the afternoon sun. The bees buzzing nearby aren’t even a bother—not when you bring their wild native honeycomb to your lips.
Restaurants & Bars
The breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus change every day and are limited only by your imagination in what our talented chef can tempt you with. Sit anywhere on the property, from more standard options like the dining room to your room's private veranda to a picnic on your daily adventure! Whatever you choose, the food is delicious in every way. We follow an Estate to Plate philosophy to the cuisine at Treetops of which as much as possible produce is produced on the estate.
Location
A two hour drive from Auckland in Rotorua. The last part of the drive is via gravel road, which tells you something about Treetops Lodge’s delicious remoteness.
