Arakur Ushuaia Resort & Spa
A sustainable retreat at The End of the World

A homey inn set in the mountains.
What we think
At the very tip of South America, set 800-feet above sea level inside the 250-acre Reserva Natural Cerro Alarkén, Arakur Ushuaia overlooks the town of Ushuaia. The resort town/gateway to Antarctica is only a ten minute drive away, but from the natural plateau Arakur sits atop, Centro looks like a sprawling jumble of tiny white houses. High up, the rugged Andes at its back and the dark blue Bahia de Ushuaia (dotted with boats heading down to Antarctica) to its front, the resort’s panoramic views are unrivaled. Arakur Ushuaia matches these settings; it’s built out of local wood and stone, its roof made out of Argentine copper. The construction and design emphasize sustainable methods - that care and attention shows. Inside, the 117 rooms and suites are mindful and contemporarily beautiful: huge expanses of glass allow the stunning views to take center stage while local marble, stone and leather give a solid sense of place. The property hosts guests who find themselves in Patagonia for a variety of reasons: during the summer, guided tours to the property's Río Chico Waterfall and beaver dams, trips to the penguin colony, hiking and helicopter tours to hidden lakes are available. During snow season, Cerro Castor Ski Resort has 26 trails through the lenga forests.
You're here because
You’re looking for a luxe base for your adventure - penguins, Antarctica, a humming port city and native forests are so much better when you're coming back to digs that are both beautifully styled and seriously comfortable.
The Moment
You’d set your alarm so you could get a head start on the day - when it strikes the hour, your curtains part themselves and let the sunlight in. Reaching over to turn off the sound, your gaze is stolen by the fantastic scene outside: the jagged Andes abruptly drop off into the steel blue Beagle Channel, the small port city sits right between them.
