Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Grand Hyatt Rio De Janeiro
What it is
A ginormous resort with all the trimmings, including 436 rooms, an outdoor pool and wet deck, four restaurants (one poolside), loaner bikes, and a nine suite spa.
What it isn't
Just for grown-ups. A kids club awaits to wow your little ones (open daily from 9 to 5), when they’re not taking a chocolate factory workshop with the chef, that is.
What we think
None other than starchitect Yabu Pushelberg and his team designed this serene resort, and it shows. Guest rooms look as if they had their own feature in Architectural Digest: Brazil. We love the backlit glowing headboards and masculine-yet-comfy custom furniture in the 452 square foot King Bed with Club Access (and the fact that rooms have private balconies, the perfect place to sip a caipirinha as the sun sets) .The Diplomat Suite is a showstopper, with its corner views (and private corner balcony) overlooking the turquoise ocean, soaking tub in the spa-like bath and 1,292 square foot floor plan. Whatever room you choose, amenities are Luxe with a capital L, including remote-controlled blackout curtains, Nespresso machines, zippy free Wifi; many have access to the Club Level lounge (where indulgent daily breakfasts await).
You're here because
The resort has a topnotch beach service crew that maintains beachy bliss with lounge chair reservations, cocktail and meal deliveries, plush towels, and more.
You’re a bit of a Japanese cuisine obsessive, so are delighted to find some of the best sashimi of your life right here, in the resort’s Shiso restaurant. That your salmon belly sashimi arrives as artful as the actual art hung on the walls above you is just a bonus. To drink: a wasabi martini, as fiery as you feel.
