São Paulo, Brazil
Hotel Fasano Sao Paulo
Boutique Brazil
What it is
A 60-room hideaway in the stylish Jardins district that’s an Instagram star’s stay-of-choice.
What it isn't
Overdone. Architects Isay Weinfeld and Márcio Kogan infused it with an élan that transcends latitudes.
What we think
In a place where bolder is better, the Fasano is notable for what it lacks: Instagram cliches and any touristy pretense. Large rooms (376-square-feet minimum) are fitted with all the trappings of a creative home today: Persian Kilim rugs, Venetian-framed paintings, white marble bathrooms, and king sized beds topped with white goose down pillows and Egyptian linens (300-thread-count, natch). The restaurant has been a crown jewel on the Sao Paolo dining scene since it opened in 1982, and one look at the menu and you can see why: the duck Agnolotti with burrata and Alaskan crab fettuccine are nothing short of transcendent. It’s no surprise, given that Fasano hotels and restaurants were founded by an Italian immigrant—Vittorio Fasano—who arrived on these shores from Milan in 1902.
You're here because
Not only is there a pool (aaaah….) but it’s on the 21st floor, with a jaw-dropping perch over the cityscape and nothing less than Hans Wegner chairs flanking the perimeter.
The Moment
You once read that Baretto, the ground-floor piano bar in Fasano, was the number one bar in the entire world in Wallpaper magazine. As the pianist wails, and as you sip your third note-perfect bloody mary, you’d wager that they’re wrong: it’s the best bar in the galaxy.
