Puerto Ayora, Ecuador
Royal Palm Galapagos
Curio Collection Hotel By Hilton
What it is
An earthy 21-room hideaway in the Galapagos’ Miconia Highland Forest, with lava tunnels, an al fresco infinity pool, locavore restaurant, gym, fire pits and room service.
What it isn't
Pet friendly. This is the land of the giant tortoise…leave Fido at home.
What we think
In a bucket list destination like the Galapagos, you need a bucket list hotel, and this one ranks. Right on the 43-acre estate, you’ll be able to tour volcano tunnels—essentially subterranean caves that take an hour to wander with hotel guides. Guest rooms look like the type of place Indiana Jones would want to put his feet up, with wood floors and furniture, exposed beams overhead, fluffy robes, 300 thread count sheets, a coffee and tea station, and so much more. They start at a spacious 409 square feet, but should you want an even more ginormous room, go for the 1 King Bed Villa: it’s 914 square feet and contains a separate living room and whirlpool tub overlooking the treetops.
You're here because
Breakfasts are included in your stay, and you love nothing more than fueling up gratis before a day of outdoorsy exploits.
The Moment
Under the thatched roof in the hotel’s Royal Palms restaurant, you’re ordering the catch of the day. How could you not? You spent all day in the salty sea air; now, you want to indulge in the best of it, from ceviche to sopa marinera, all as fresh as you feel.
