Mashpi, Ecuador
Mashpi Lodge
Natural Wonder
What it is
Set within a pristine 6,177-acre reserve, this luxe all inclusive lodge has it all—including a modernist spa, glass walled restaurant and bottomless activities.
What it isn't
Just for grown ups. Children can join in on day and night hikes, visit a butterfly farm, and ride bikes through the jungle tree canopy…among other unforgettable things.
What we think
The sleek and frankly jaw-dropping architecture of Mashpi Lodge is made all the more stunning by its setting: a riot of lush rainforest trees that provide an ideal juxtaposition for modernism. Guest rooms are equally artful, with their floor to ceiling windows that make you feel at one with the forest beyond the glass. Interiors are sleek and calming, thanks to the neutral color palette and custom furniture, but this isn’t “granola” at all: Mashpi has installed automatic blinds, soundproofing, and topnotch humidity and temperature control systems in each room. Solo travelers will find all they need in the 228 square foot Wawa Rooms; if you’re traveling with family or friends, the Yaku Suites are well worth it for their sprawling 495-square-foot interiors and soaking tubs.
You're here because
You’ll learn so much from their staff of naturalist guides, who will meet you in the expedition room to plan your adventures—whether you ogle some 1,600 bird species or hike to misty waterfalls.
The Moment
You’ve spent the morning hiking, and your body is weary…which is why the spa is calling your name. Today’s indulgence? A body exfoliation with locally grown passionfruit and a clay mud wrap. Bliss.
