Hotel B
Historic Hideaway
What it is
A 1914 Belle Epoque mansion that’s now an art-stocked boutique hotel with six buzzing eateries and a rooftop bar.
What it isn't
Sweltering. Each room has air-conditioning (phew).
What we think
Yes, this grande dame is over a century old, but she’s among the most stylish properties around, thanks to a curated, museum-worthy art collection that has breathed fresh life into each and every space. And even the standard “Alcoba” rooms are luxe, with their 300-thread-count sheets and fluffy down duvets, separate rain showers, organic toiletries and high-tech perks, like iPod stereos and loaner DVD players for the LCD tvs. To spread out as much as possible, request an Atelier Suite—the hotel’s largest, each equipped with a terrace or foyer along with a living space. While you’re here, be sure to stop in at The Library for an over-the-top gratis breakfast spread and afternoon tea treats that include housemade Peruvian hot chocolate. (Speaking of art: note the circa 800 A.D. Pre-Columbian throw hanging from the wall in there).
You're here because
It’s a Relais & Chateaux member, and experience has taught you those are always among the best-of-the-best hotels on earth.
The Moment
You don’t usually find a humble hamburger transportive, but this one—made of wagyu beef and served up on sweet potato bread—has you audibly sighing. Or is it the fact that you’re having it at sunset on the rooftop terrace overlooking the sea?
