Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong

A First-Rate Flagship

What it is

A celeb-magnet on Victoria Harbour, with 494 polished rooms, 62 ornate suites and two (yes, two) Michelin-starred restaurants.

What it isn't

Frazzled. The spa is inspired by traditional Chinese medicine and leaves guests feeling brand new.

What we think

The people that dole out Michelin stars don’t mess around. And when they bestow two upon the same storied hotel (here, at dim sum fave Man Wah and seafood spot Mandarin Grill + Bar), you can bet every single element of the property is sheer perfection. For example: even the “starter” room category here, a Studio, is outfitted with Black Forest Chinese marble and travertine stone finishes, soft leather furniture, and LCD tv’s—not that you’ll turn it on, with the cityscape out your almost floor to ceiling window. For roomier digs, upgrade to a 431-square-foot Harbour View room, adorned with your choice of Tai-pan or Verandah-style interiors (and, yes, views of that iconic harbour out your panoramic window). While you’re here, you can’t miss proper Cantonese dim sum at Man Wah, open since 1968 and serving up a housemade wild chrysanthemum oolong tea that’s become a cult classic.

You're here because

The 24-hour fitness center is as high-tech as they come, with TRX suspension trainers and Technogym cardio machines.

The Moment

Afternoon tea doesn’t get any better than it is right now, at the Clipper Lounge—champagne in one hand, and a raspberry vanilla tart in the other. You’re still thinking about the truffle egg salad sandwich you had 10 minutes ago...so much so that you’re making another reservation for tomorrow: same time, same seat.
