Hotel Sacher Salzburg

Royal-worthy respite

What it is

A storied 1866 grande dame on the Salzach River, with ornate rooms, four exquisite restaurants and a health club that will reset your whole body and mind.

What it isn't

Just for grown-ups. The hotel pampers littles just as much thanks to their Sacher Kids program; they’ll be treated to tot-sized robes and slippers, turndown, board games, and plenty of other perks.

What we think

It would be difficult to visit Salzburg and stay in a faceless, newly built property—this is the home of Mozart, after all, and elaborate flights of fancy are to be revered. Case in point: the guest rooms at Hotel Sacher Salzburg, where even the “starter” Deluxe Room looks like it would have wowed Princess Diana herself, with its intricate millwork, toile fabrics and marble-lined bathrooms (plus a complimentary non-alcoholic mini bar that’s yours to raid at your leisure). To spread out, you’ll want to book a Signature Suite; they start at 431 square feet and are stocked with antique oil paintings and panoramas of the river, Makart Square or Salzburg Theater, opened in 1893.

You're here because

You love nothing more than a good hotel bar, and the Sacher Bar is darkly sparkly, with moody red walls and candelabras worthy of Wolfgang himself. Did we mention the signature drink here is a smoked old fashioned?

The Moment

After a day pounding the cobblestones, there’s no place you’d rather be than the hotel’s Zirbelzimmer restaurant, sitting under the outstretched antlers of taxidermied bucks that have graced these walls since the restaurant opened in 1866. If you squint, you can almost see former guest Grace Kelly giggling over her slice of sachertorte—the chocolate and apricot cake that was invented here and is every bit of delicious today.

Restaurants & Bars

Roter Salon - Austrian and international dishes

Zirbelzimmer - Gourmet food by head chef Manfred Stüfler

Cafe Sacher Salzburg - The café terrace on the banks of the River Salzach

Salzach Grill - Famous for its grilled meat and fish and burgers

Sacher Confiserie Salzburg - In-house confectionery store where you can get the world-famis Original Sacher-Torte

Sacher Bar - Try one of the delicious cocktails, enjoy the evening piano music, or step out onto the terrace to enjoy the view of the river on a warm summer evening.

Location

Perched right on the Salzach River, the hotel is a one minute walk from Mozart Residence—the home where the infamous musician was born in 1756, now a museum teeming with his belongings, including his pianoforte, viola and clavichord.
