Como Metropolitan London

Mayfair, London

What it is

A design-forward boutique hotel with an emphasis on wellness.

What it isn't

A paparazzi-stalked hot spot. The vibe and clientele have matured since the nightlife-focused early years.

What we think

The Metropolitan has consistently attracted the style set since it opened in 1997, but the hotel's overall sensibility has evolved. What began as a see-and-be-seen hot spot, centered on the trendy Met Bar, has turned into a sophisticated boutique property that hews to its designer roots while catering to a more levelheaded crowd. Inside the glass-and-granite 11-story tower overlooking Hyde Park, the formerly white-on-white lobby has been softened with walnut accents and green carpets. Upstairs, the 144 rooms and suites have huge windows that run nearly to the floor, allowing postcard-perfect views. The spaces are vast and uncluttered, with honey-toned furniture of walnut and sycamore. There's an increased emphasis on wellness—a hallmark of the COMO brand—with yoga and other classes, a holistic spa and a 24-hour gym. What remains the same: the miso-marinated black cod at Nobu and the serious cocktails—and sense of exclusivity—at the Met Bar.

You're here because

You no longer chase trends and down cocktails till the wee hours—but you've retained your appreciation for contemporary pleasures.

The Moment

Coming back from your Thai massage in the Shambhala Spa, you walk slowly, your meridians aligned and your mind gracefully calm. You think of the night ahead: the Met Bar’s glossy floor, filled with clicking heels and tinkling laughter.

The southern end of Park Lane, overlooking Hyde Park. It’s a four-block walk to the heart of Mayfair. Heathrow is a 45-minute drive.
