The Charles Hotel
A Rocco Forte Hotel
What it is
Big: big rooms, a big indoor pool, big, fantastic cocktails in the bar.
What it isn't
There’s nothing it isn’t. Forte means strong.
What we think
Rocco Forte may be a business wizard, but this is no business hotel. The property (and much of the furniture) was designed in Art Deco style; it’s filled with 19th-century drawings by Franz von Lenbach, who lived just a few blocks away. We love that the 136-rooms (24-suites) are so outsized, because when you’re in a new city, that alone can put you at ease immediately; these ones come stocked with windows overlooking Maxvorstadt museum quarter and heated limestone floor bathrooms complete with Bavarian porcelain artwork. You’ll let out a satisfied sigh upon entry; it’s an ideal home base for exploring the city.
You're here because
You’re looking for a home away from home and you found it, only better (does your house have views of the Alps?).
You’re surrounded by neighborhood regulars in the hotel bar—where else does that happen? But once you have a sip of your Vanilla Shrub cocktail (vanilla, bourbon, and champagne), you get it.
